La Playtoy Orchestra, fondata nel 2002 e diretta da Fabrizio Cusani, viaggia in tutto il mondo con 5 valigie, proponendo un approccio unico alla divulgazione musicale: il progetto nasce con l'obiettivo di avvicinare alla musica classica un pubblico di bambini dai 3 ai 120 anni, attraverso l'elemento per tutti più naturale e attraente: il giocattolo.
In questo modo gli spettatori, dai bambini fino alle loro famiglie, entrano con spontaneità in un universo culturale spesso percepito come elitario o distante, scoprendo che l'arte può essere immediata e accessibile. Come riconosciuto da anni dalla critica e dalla stampa, lo spettacolo rappresenta il primo esperimento dal vivo al mondo basato sull'uso esclusivo di strumenti giocattolo e oggetti ludici sonori.
About Us
The PlayToy Orchestra, founded in 2002 and directed by Fabrizio Cusani, travels all over the world with just five suitcases, offering a unique approach to musical appreciation. The project was created with the goal of bringing an audience of all ages—from 3 to 120—closer to classical music through the element that is most natural and appealing to everyone: the toy.
In this way, spectators, from children to their families, enter with complete spontaneity a cultural universe often perceived as highbrow or distant, discovering instead that art can be immediate and accessible. As recognized and certified for years by critics and the press, the show represents the world's first live experiment based exclusively on the use of toy instruments and sound-emitting play objects.
Lo Spettacolo sul Palco
L'impatto visivo e sonoro è immediato e fortemente ironico: sul palco si esibiscono sei musicisti professionisti che utilizzano una batteria di plastica di soli 30 cm suonata da un batterista alto 1,90 m, piccole chitarre basso, fisarmonichette di cartone e organetti Bontempi, affiancati da giocattoli sonori meno convenzionali come coccodrilli, maialini, rotelle sonore, cavallucci meccanici, fischietti e clacson.
Questa veste giocosa non costituisce una semplice provocazione, ma il mezzo per eseguire musica di altissimo livello artistico, interpretata rigorosamente dal vivo a partire dalle partiture originali di grandi compositori quali Mozart, Offenbach, Brahms, Rossini, Bizet, Beethoven, Tchajkovskij, Verdi e J. Strauss.
Il format richiama inoltre un'interessante verità linguistica: in molte lingue straniere (come l'inglese to play o il francese jouer), i concetti di "suonare" e "giocare" si esprimono con il medesimo verbo, diversamente dall'italiano che impiega due termini distinti.
Luoghi dello spettacolo: teatri, sale da concerto e tutte le location dotate di un buon impianto scenico e di un'acustica adeguata.
The Show on Stage
The visual and auditory impact is immediate and wonderfully witty: six adult professional musicians perform on stage using a 30 cm plastic drum kit played by a 1.90-meter-tall drummer, tiny bass guitars, cardboard accordions, and Bontempi organs, alongside less conventional sound-making toys such as plastic crocodiles, squeaking pigs, sound wheels, mechanical horses, whistles, and horns.
This playful disguise is not a mere gimmick, but a creative medium to deliver music of the highest artistic standard, performed strictly live from the original scores of master composers such as Mozart, Offenbach, Brahms, Rossini, Bizet, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, and J. Strauss.
The format also highlights an interesting linguistic fact: in many languages (such as the English "to play" or the French "jouer"), the concepts of "making music" and "playing" are expressed by the very same verb, unlike Italian, which uses two distinct terms.
Venues: Theatres, concert halls, and any location equipped with proper staging and suitable acoustics.
Interazione e Coinvolgimento del Pubblico
Lo spettacolo ha una durata di circa un'ora e prevede una spiccata componente interattiva:
- La direzione d'orchestra: il Direttore, in impeccabile frac, coinvolge direttamente dai 2 ai 4 spettatori (bambini o adulti) invitandoli sul palco a dirigere i "musicisti giocattolo".
- Il gioco musicale collettivo: se gli organizzatori invitano i bambini a portare da casa un proprio giocattolo musicale facendoli accomodare nelle prime file, i giovani spettatori diventano parte attiva della performance attraverso coinvolgenti momenti di animazione musicale ed emotiva.
Audience Interaction and Engagement
The performance lasts approximately one hour and features a strong interactive component:
- Conducting the Orchestra: The Conductor, dressed in an impeccable tailcoat, directly involves 2 to 4 audience members (children or adults), inviting them on stage to conduct the "toy musicians."
- Collective Musical Play: If organizers invite children to bring their own musical toys from home and seat them in the front rows, the young audience members become an active part of the performance through engaging musical and emotional participation.
